Four Tigers Players were recognized for their outstanding play this spring and were named to the NCCAA Central All-Region Team. Sam Carr was named at 1B, Aaron Premer was named at SS, Troy Richter was named in RF, and Chris Wood was named as one of 4 starting pitchers recognized by the Central region coaches. The Central region includes Kansas, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. "As our quality of play continues to improve, other teams in our region see that and I believe that's why these guys were selected," said Central Christian's head coach Bob Marsh.
Carr led the Tigers with a .403 average, 60 hits, 40 RBI's, 8 Hr's & 8 SB. He was named the NCCAA National Player of the Week the last week of March when he hit 6 HR's in 5 days! The Tiger junior captain also fielded .985 at first base.
Aaron Premer hit .370 for the Tigers with 54 hits, 2 Hr's, 24 RBI's and a team leading 16 doubles. "Aaron consistently hits the ball harder than anyone I have coached!", said Marsh. Premer, a junior, moved to SS this year after playing 3B in 2009 and his play shined for the Tigers who turned 24 double plays!
Richter hit .329 w 47 hits, 11 doubles and 34 RBI's for the Tigers and was a mainstay in Right field, handling 88 chances with only 1 error. The freshman also threw out 4 runners at the plate to lead all OF in the region!
Freshman, Chris Wood led the Tigers with 7 wins this spring and 70.4 IP. He recorded 48 K's while giving up 36 BB. His ERA was 7.04. He led the team with 4 complete games including Oklahoma Wesleyan, Hillsdale & Ozark Christian, & William's Baptist College.
Marsh is excited about the possibilities next spring already with 3 seniors, 8 juniors, and 5 sophmores returning in 2010-2011!
