After three tough losses in a row, the CCC men's soccer team ended their slide in a big way on Saturday night against Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College. The Tiger offense erupted with a 12 goal performance, and the defense did their part to secure the shutout. Grant Rardon the scoring started for the Tigers with a hat trick in the first ten minutes of the game. His first goal came in the first minute of the game off an assist from Josh Black. His 2nd and 3rd goals, one of which was a header inside the 6 yard box, were both assisted by Martin Marfo. Marfo had a couple of one on ones stopped by the Saints keeper before he finally got on the board to score the Tigers' 4th goal. The Tigers scored 4 more goals in the first half, one each by Gunnar Kelly, Garret Pair, Kenny Cann, and Ronnie Rocha to take an 8-0 lead into the break.
In the second half Coach Hoxie got his bench players some valuable playing time and they responded with 4 more goals. Gunnar Kelly got his second goal of the game just 9 minutes into the half. David Armstrong scored the next two Tiger goals and Josh Black finished off the scoring. The second half goals were assisted by Armstrong, Alex Emery, Ronnie Rocha, and Omar Acosta.
Coach Hoxie liked the performance saying, "Good game from all players. We were able to rest some bodies and play everyone. With the win today we are post season eligible. I would also like to congratulate David Armstrong for scoring his first collegiate goal."
As Hoxie said, the win, the 7th this season for the Tigers, makes them eligible for post season play, both NAIA and NCCAA. The Tigers are now 7-6-1 on the season. They have a couple of big games next week at home. They play the always tough Manhattan Christian College Crusaders at 8:00 pm on Tuesday night followed by a homecoming show down with Central Baptist College at 8:00 pm on Saturday.
