This week, fifty youth soccer players ages 7 to 17 have converged onto Central Christian College's campus for the 16th annual Victory Soccer camp. The camp was started back in 1996, and gives youth soccer players an opportunity develop full sided scrimmages. Victory also gives campers the opportunity to grow in their walk with Christ through challenging devotional times led each day by one of the coaching staff. Victory Soccer Camp has a field players camp, and also a goal keeping camp, covering all aspects of the game of soccer.
This year's camp staff is made up of current high school and college coaches, and former college players. Mike Reimer is the camp director and currently coaches the CCC women's soccer program. Chris Adrian, the McPherson High School head boys and girls coach, is back again this year. Former CCC head men's coach and current high school girls coach in Bristow, Oklahoma Matt Ball, brought several of his players up from Oklahoma. Heath Whitehouse, former CCC men's soccer stand out is also on staff, and NCCAA All-American and current CCC women's assistant coach, Neva Morales is lending her expertise to this year's camp.
Victory Soccer camp is a friendly yet competitive environment where kids of all skill levels can come together and learn more about the game they love and also more about the God who loves them and gave them the talents to play the game of soccer. The kids who came to Victory Soccer Camp this summer are generally from the McPherson and Hutchinson area, but several have come from Nebraska and Oklahoma. One neat story line from this year's camp is that there are several players from the McPherson Strikers Club, and the Hutchinson Azzuri Club at the camp together. These two clubs have become intense rivals in area tournaments, but for this week, they share a common bond. They are playing alongside each other, pushing each other and encouraging each other to be better soccer players.
