In the last week, the Tiger softball team has caught fire. The Lady Tigers are winners of four of their last six games, all of them MCAC conference matchups. Last weekend the Tigers played two road series, winning three of the four games. On Friday night, the Tigers split a double header with York College. The Tigers won game one 3-2 behind the pitching of Brooklynn Lemons and Mallory Smith. Lemons started the game allowing two runs on four hits and walked three Panther batters. Smith came on in relief in the 4th inning. She pitched four scoreless innings allowing only three hits, walking three batters, and striking out two others.
York jumped out to a quick two run lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers tied the game up a two, scoring two runs in the top of the third inning. Things remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when the Tigers pushed across the winning run. The Tiger offense managed seven hits in the win, led by Hannah Martin who went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Angela Jamison also swung a hot bat for the Tigers. Jamison was 2 for 3 with a single and a double. Mallory Smith and Brooklynn Lemons had the other two hits for the Tigers.
In the second game the Panthers defeated the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh inning 4-3. York scored the first two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth inning, the Tigers tied things up with two runs of their own. CCC took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh only to see the Panthers score two runs in the bottom of the frame to win the game. Desiree Yandell was on the mound for the Tigers and took the loss. She pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four runs, only two of them earned, on eight hits. She walked six and struck out one in the loss. The Tiger offense came up with seven hits from seven different players. Brooklynn Lemons, Dana Dean, Hannah Martin, Tiffany Burget, Samantha Wilson, Kylie Damm, and Angela Jamison all had hits for the Tigers. Dean and Martin were responsible for driving in the three Tiger runs.
On Saturday the Tigers travelled to Lawrence, KS to play a double header with Haskell University. The Tigers needed extra innings in the first game to defeat the Indians 5-4. Mallory Smith was on the mound for the Tigers. She went all eight innings, giving up 4 runs on 13 hits. She walked 2 and struck out 5 enroute to the win. The Tigers got on the board first in the top of the third inning with two runs, but the Indians answered in the bottom of the third with two runs of their own. CCC scored two more runs in the top of the fifth. Haskell tied things up again in the bottom of the seventh, to send the game into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, the Tigers pushed across the winning run to finish the game 5-4. The Tigers were hot from the plate, coming up with 13 hits. Five Tigers had multi hits including Brooklynn Lemons (2-5), Hannah Martin (2-5 with a run scored), Tiffany Burget (3-4), Kylie Damm (2-4) and Jordan Steward (2-4). Shawna Hash, Tiffany Burget, and Kylie Damm drove in the five Tiger runs.
In the second game on Saturday, the Tigers completed the sweep of Haskell with an 11-5 drubbing of the Indians. Brooklynn Lemons, Meaghan Reamy, and Mallory Smith all combined in the win with Lemons getting credit for the win. She pitched four innings allowing five Indian runs on eight hits. For the Tiger offense remained hot, scoring their 11 runs on 11 hits. Dana Dean, Hannah Martin, and Jordan Stewart each had two hits for the Tigers.
