The Tiger men's golf team opened up their spring season at the Bethany College Spring Invitational. The Tigers finished 6th out of 13 teams shooting a two day total of 658. The Tigers opened the tournament on Monday in Salina with a 338 and then finished today in very windy conditions at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson with a 320.
The Tigers were led by sophomore transfer Treg Fawl. Fawl finished the tournament in 7th place shooting 78 on day one and 74 on day two for a total of 152. Senior Travis Bobychuk was five strokes behind Fawl shooting 76, 81, 157 good for an 11'th place finish. Randy Koski finished in a tie for 57th with a 173, Elliot Wingert shot 176 tied for 66th, and Keith Slattery rounded things out with a 181 finishing in 75th. Head Coach Zac Cumpston commented on his team's start to the 2012 season saying, 'We had a really tough tournament. The conditions were terribly windy and our players had a really tough time dealing with them. On Monday we really let the weather control our game and affect our focus. It seemed as if we gave up. I was really pleased tho today with our mindset and we went out and didn't let the weather take control of our golf game. We were mentally tough almost all day and we came back stronger after a bad first day. For our first tournament being in such tough conditions I am pleased at the growth from the first to the second round but we are still better than we shot today."
The Tigers get back into action in two weeks at the Southwestern College Invitational in Winfield, KS.
