In the second half the Tiger lead remained around 6 to 8 points until the 37th minute of the game and the Crusaders took a 1 point lead on a pair of free throws. The Tigers got the ball across the half on the next possession, called time out and diagramed a set play. Jaylyn Packard's pass to Samantha Graves was deflected by a Crusader defenderoff of her hands out of bounds. The Tiger were forced to foul and the crusaders made both free throws to extend the lead to 3. The Tigers had one last chance but a three pointer by Packard at the buzzer fell short and the Tigers lost a heartbreaker 47-50.
Rachel Graves led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points, followed right behind by her sister Samantha with 11. Harley Pate finished just out of double figures with 9. Rachel Graves also did a nice job on the boards with 7. Raven Void and Samantha Graves led the Tigers defensively with 3 steals apiece.
Though a tough loss to stomach, Coach Lancaster commented on his team's performance, "Tough game for us tonight, we led the whole second half and we should have won the game. It is still a growing process for us but I was pleased with some of the things I saw. We will continue taking steps forward and grow and I trust that the team will get to the next level where we put away these types of games and not squander opportunities."
The loss drops the Tigers to 1-2 on the season. They go back on the road on Thursday to play Bethany College. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 pm.
