The CCC lady Tigers soccer team finally got the overtime monkey off their back. With 44 seconds left in the 2nd overtime period, the Tigers scored the game winner to defeat the Manhattan Christian lady Crusaders 2-1.
The game was a tale of two halves. CCC dominated the 1st half, scoring the game's first goal in the 25th minute when Krystina Powell scored off of a Stephanie Street Pass. The Tiger kept up the pressure but were unable to extend their lead before the 1st half whistle blew. In the second half the Crusaders caught life and went on the attack. In the 48th minute the Crusaders were able to hit the equalizer. The teams played the rest of the half even and went into overtime 1-1.
In the first overtime the Tigers had a chance to end the game but Stephanie Street's shot sailed just over the crossbar. They would have to wait a few more minutes to celebrate. That celebration would happen when Krystina Powell scored her second goal and the game winner by winning ball from the defense and then outworking them and hitting the back of the net.
A very relieved Coach Reimer commented, "Four consecutive overtime games. I told my team before OT that it was our turn to win. They played very well in OT and Krystina had a textbook 1v1 finish."
With the win, the Tigers are now 2-12 on the season. They have a big homecoming showdown on Friday with Oklahoma Wesleyan. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 pm.
