The CCC women's soccer team was narrowly defeated by the Southwestern College Mound Builders on Wednesday night. The Mound Builders took a 1-0 lead into the intermission and then added two more goals in the second half to secure a 3-2 victory. The Tigers got within one of the Builders midway through the second half when
Krystina Powell found the back of the net off an assist by
Courtney Huff. Two minutes later the Builders hit the game winner when Tiger goal keeper
Bri Horstmann was unable to secure a Builder shot and Vanessa Saltos finished off the rebound. CCC made things interesting late when
Krystina Powell was able to elude the Builder defense to find the goal a second time. The Tigers made a couple of attacks late but were unable to tie things up.
The Tigers were out shot by the Builders 19 to 5 and took 5 more corner kicks than Tigers.
Bri Horstmann was in goal for the Tigers and came up with 6 saves.
Though disappointed with the outcome, coach Reimer was pleased with the overall performance saying, "We played our best game of the year tonight. We are still making mistakes that lead to our opponents goals, but otherwise our play was much better."
The loss drops the Tigers to 1-7 on the season. They are back in action on Saturday when Tabor comes to town. Kickoff slated for 6:00 pm.
