The CCC volleyball team hosted #16 Bellevue University on Thursday night, and the Bruins showed why they are ranked that high. The Tigers were defeated in the first match 6-25, 5-25, 11-25. Offensively Victoria McCord, and Alayna Howell had two kills for the Tigers. McCord also had 2 assists and a service ace. The Tigers had very few opportunities to dig the ball as the Bruin hitters regularly found the holes in the Tiger defense. Keindra Williams came up with 5 digs to lead the Tigers defensively.
In the second match the Bruins picked up where they left off winning the match 25-13, 25-4, 25-8. Alayna Howell had 4 kills on 19 attempts. She also added an assist and a block. Angela Jamison had 4 digs to lead the way defensively.
Coach Burrill commented saying, "It was a rough night, we had 2 starters injured so we were patch working a line up together and it showed. We just were not comfortable and we knew we were playing the #16 team in the country. Where it really showed was in our serve receive. If you can't receive serve you can't run your offense and you give away free points. When you change a third of your personnel in 24 hours it tends to leave holes and Bellevue is a great team and could take advantage of that. We're not discouraged we just see where we need to get better."
The pair of losses drops the Tigers to 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Tigersare back in action Saturday in a Triangular at McPherson College. CCC plays Sterling College at 4:00 and Mac College at 6:00.
