McPherson, KS - May 21, 2012 - Central Christian College President Hal Hoxie announces the resignation of CCC Director of Athletics Melvin Sanders. Sanders has been offered, and accepted a senior executive position with Target Corporation. He graduated from CCC in 2005, where he was a standout on the basketball team. After graduating from CCC, he joined the financial service industry working as a financial advisor and investment counselor in both St. Louis, Missouri and Portland, Oregon. Sanders moved back to McPherson in the fall of 2010 when he accepted a position on the CCC campus as the Resident Director of Gillespie Hall and as the assistant men's basketball coach. Last July, Melvin became the Tiger Athletics Director filling the vacancy left by Coach Bob Marsh in January.
Central Christian College President Hal Hoxie commented about Sanders' tenure at Central Christian College saying, "I really hate to see Melvin go but I am excited for such an important opportunity for one of our business alums.Melvin and Karilyn are great examples for each one of us and Central Christian College wishes them well."
Melvin reflected on his time with the Tigers by saying, "Karilyn and I are very blessed to have been a part of Central Christian in the capacity we have been.The current coaching staff is extremely motivated and focused on continuing change in a positive direction while growing the programs academically, spiritually, and athletically. We are very thankful for the opportunity President Hoxie afforded us; his leadership is extremely effective and necessary for the direction Central is headed.We are also very thankful for the coaching staff and their friendships that will last lifetimes; we will always be involved in the long-term vision of CCC.While it will be extremely difficult to leave very close family and friends, we are also excited for the new opportunities that await us with Target on the East Coast."
Melvin and his wife Karilyn plan to move to the New York City area in July. A search to find a replacement for Sanders will take place immediately.
